Binderup, Merete: Geomorphology during Holocene in Brededal, West Greenland—particularly concerning the marine Impact. Geografisk Tidsskrift 86: 17–27. Copenhagen June 1986. During Late- and Postglacial time the coasts of Disko have been isostatically raised. The simultaneous eustatic sea-level rise was less than the isostatic rebound. The highest marine limit is measured at 100–110 m above sea-level. Three marine features are found at 90–70 m above sea-level. The mouth-area of the valley (Brededal) from about 60 to 4 m above sea-level is characterised by poor- to well-developed elevated pebble- and cobble beach ridges. An earlier-developed shoreline-diagram has made possible a reconstruction of the chronological land-emergence. Fluvial activity has interrupted parts of the ridges and tectonic activity has caused faults of beach ridges in a restricted area. The recent beach is transgressiv and shows several features of ice effect. Summary The valley Brededalen is located on the southern coast of Disko Island, central West Greenland When the ice melted away from the coastal areas at the end of Weichsel, the land raised isostatically at a higher rate then the simultaneous eustatic rise in sealevel with a relative uplift of land as the result Traces of marine activity are therefore abundant in the mouth area of Brededalen. The highest and oldest marine level is found 100–110 m a.s.l. Furthermore, evidences of marine activity have been found in three places within 70–90 m a.s.l. From 60 down to 4 m a.s.l. there are numerous fossil shingle beach ridFs, many of them cut through by fluvial activity from the Brededal river and two minor rivers. River erosion in the beach ridaes J.neal that the marine cover superimposes till. By means of previously constructed uplift curves for the Disko Bay area it bas been possible to reconstruct its relative, chronological uplift pattern. Faults in the fossil shingle beach ridaes demonstrate that the area bas been exposed to tectonic disturbances. The recent coastline is in a transpessive phase. The beach ric:laes show evidences of ice-foot and ice-floe activity. I am indebted to Jørgen Nielsen, Niels Nielsen and Harald Svensson for discussions and valuable comments.
