"The title of this book alludes to the Theory of the letter - the postdoctoral thesis of Stefania Skwarczyńska published in 1937 in Lviv, which remains a clear reference point for all researchers in Polish epistolography. This gap is meant to be filled in by this monograph, which is also a continuation of Skwarczyńska's project, as well as its supplementation with new theoretical and research contexts, absent in pre-war reflection."--Abstract, page 447.
