The writer of this note is indebted to Ivo and Rosalind Feierabend (1966) for the publication of their data in a paper in this journal. They reported the result of an attempt to obtain an indicator of the degree to which economic and social frustration existed in a nation. This indicator was essentially one of a dysfunctional social structure in which a population was exposed to the desirable things enjoyed by the moder world, at the same time being prevented from enjoying them because of shortage and the economic backwardness of the society.
