logic of their own, even if initially fitting the theoretical assumptions. Doctrine is then creatively extended, new principles are extrapolated from the original set of assumptions, new generalizations crystallize, and, finally, the identity of the ideology emerges. Ideology is in effect the link between theory and action. It may be defined as an action program derived from certain doctrinal assumptions about the nature of reality and expressed through stated, not overly complex, assertions about the inadequacy of the past and present state of societal affairs.
