In I932, in his 8oth year, Karl Moor, a veteran of the Swiss socialist movement, died in a Berlin sanatorium. He had also been closely associated with the bolsheviks, first in their Swiss exile, before and during the first world war; almost immediately after the October Revolution he settled in Soviet Russia, only leaving it for Germany in I927. He died in the odour of communist sanctity. He was described in the communist press as the last of the grand old pioneers whose beginnings were rooted in the First International, and who had ended his days fittingly as a founding father of the Third. Normally, that would have been the end some words devoted to Karl Moor in historical accounts of Swiss social democracy, a few footnotes here and there in Lenin's Collected Works, and with that interest in Karl Moor would have died
