This investigation is concerned with the applicability of operant conditioning procedures in increasing the proportion of attending behavior in interviewers during the interview process (N = 60 male and female undergraduates). The purposes of the study were to determine: (a) if E-administered direct contingent reinforcement is effective in systematically increasing attending behavior; (b) if E-administered noncontingent reinforcement is effective in systematically increasing attending behavior; and (c) if simply conducting interviews systematically increases the interviewer's attending behavior. Results indicated that attending behavior systematically increased during sequential direct contingent reinforcement interviews. No systematically increasing interview attending behavior was seen in the noncontingent procedure. Additionally, no systematic increment in target behavior was observed in the records of the interviewers of the group which received no experimental intervention (Group I). Possible implications of these results were discussed
