In “The Coming Separation of Leisure Studies from Parks and Recreation,” Burdge has identified a concern which appears to be widely shared by contributors to and followers of leisure research. However, an examination of Burdge's actual —as opposed to stated— premise reveals that he has arrived prematurely at conclusions and recommendations. This seems the result of (a) too warmly embracing statements about the difficulties of conducting research by those housed in University departments of Recreation and Parks and (b) limiting leisure research to what is submitted to this and other journals
