The research note examines the role of interpersonal influence in the diffusion and adoption of new recreation activities, and the role of status differences (as measured by occupational prestige rankings) in the interpersonal influence process. The study found that social influence occurs primarily within the same or closely adjacent status groups, and that influencers tend to have the same or slightly higher status than adopters
