CINCINNATI HAS LONG been recognized as an outstanding musical center in the United States. There are a number of reasons why this is true. Not the least of these is the early establishment of a strong program of music education in the public schools of the city. This report traces the development of music education in the Cincinnati schools from its beginnings in the 1830's to its present status. In addition, the study sheds light on the relationship between school music and the growth of Cincinnati as a music center, and between music education ln Cincinnati and the development of school music throughout the United States
