LabourStart, founded in 1998, was initially a website for trade union news from around the world. That news was collected by a network of hundreds of volunteer correspondents, and circulated (in some 20 languages) through the net both via the website and syndication to many other sites. By 2002, LabourStart was leading the way with online campaigning, and there is now evidence of some success using online tools to compel governments and employers to respect workers' rights. LabourStart may now be seen to be playing a central role in the resurgence of a long-dormant trade union internationalism
