The author reviews her use of landscape as the starting point for her oil paintings and her search for a method of color harmony on the basis of an assumed color-music scale correspondence. After discussing the Ostwald color system she presents her analogy between a simplified Ostwald color scale and the classical piano keyboard range of 88 musical tones. The use of her analogy is then demonstrated by analysing several of her paintings and a painting by Matisse. She also describes two of her attempts to transpose two musical compositions into paintings. The advantages and disadvantages of her method are considered, leading her to a reconsideration of the value of using chance in her work.
