The author describes her nonfigurative paintings, which she calls Cosmogrammes , made by techniques involving the deposit on a sheet of paper or some other support of pigments and other materials suspended in intermingling immiscible liquids. The relationship of her techniques to the one used in marbling is described. She points out their particular versatility for obtaining patterns suggestive of visual aspects of certain natural objects and phenomena and for obtaining a wide variety of textural effects. She discusses the important role played by ‘lucky accidents’ in the making of Cosmogrammes
