The nationalist elites in Aden are politically oriented towards the achievement of power. They can be categorized both in terms of the methods they use for achieving their objective and in terms of the area in which they operate. Thus there are those elites who participate within the formal colonial political structure, and those elites who operate outside it, with the objective of replacing the colonial structure with a nationalist one in which they will hold the reins of power. Secondly there are those who operate within Aden only, and those who encompass the whole of South Arabia. These two dichotomies are not coterminous, thus adding to the complexity of the political situation in Aden. Given this complexity, the aim of this paper has been to discuss the following points
Colonial rule · Colonialism · Development economics · Dichotomy · Economics · Economy · Nationalism · Political economy · Political science · Politics · Power (physics · Sociology · Global Maritime and Colonial Histories · Law
