The purpose of this paper is to present for the benefit of other scholars statistical data on the population of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century as the available information on this subject is rather vague and insufficient. The figures for 1914 are official Ottoman statistics while those for 1919 were compiled by the British Foreign Office and based on estimates and analyses of various sources. A comparison of the data from the two sources is presented. (EXCERPT)
