The author presents a critique of a paper by Bell and Kirwan in which they contend that the probability of return migration will tend to be equal for Scottish migrants to England and Wales and for English or Welsh migrants to Scotland. In the present article, comparable data for the United States and Scotland are evaluated, and comments are presented on the regression equations used. A reply by Bell and Kirwan is also included (pp. 135-6)
