This paper attempts to identify, on a United Kingdom wide basis, the regional dispersion of the various groupings of financial markets and intermediaries. Although London dominates there is, however, evidence of significant pockets of autonomous financial intermediaries in certain of the regions. Having established the framework, the discussion proceeds to examine a selection of issues likely to impact upon the future growth performance of financial intermediaries at regional level. Three issues weigh particularly heavy in this part of the discussion: the added flexibility now on offer to financial intermediaries due to information technology; relocation within the financial services industry and its impact on regional financial sectors; and European integration, with special reference to regulation and the likely consequences for continued financial services growth at both national and regional level in the United Kingdom. Cet article cherche à découvrir à l'echelon national la répartition régionale des divers regroupements de marchés et d'intermédiaires financiers. Bien que Londres prédomine, il y a néanmoins des preuves qu'il existe des bassins importants d'intermédiaires financiers autonomes dans certaines régions. Une fois établi une structure il s'ensuit une série de questions susceptibles d'influer sur la croissance éventuelle des intermédiaires financiers sur le plan régional. Trois questions suscitent à quelque attention, à savoir la souplesse accrue à la disposition des intermédiaires financiers due à la technologie de l'information, le choix d'une nouvelle implantation par les services financiers et son impact sur les secteurs des services régionaux, et l'intégration européenne y comprises la réglementation et les possibilités d'une croissance plus soutenue des services financiers aux niveaux national et régional au Royaume-Uni. Dieser Aufsatz versucht, auf der Basis des Vereinigten Königreichs die regionale Streuung der verschiedenen Gruppierungen von Finanzmärkten und Vermittlern zu identifizieren. Obwohl London die Szene beherrscht, lassen sich in gewissen Regionen Gebiete selbstständiger finanzieller Vermittlung aufweisen. Nach Festlegung des Rahmens wendet sich die Diskussion sodann dér Unter-suchung ausgewählter Fragestellungen zu, die sich wahr-scheinlich auf das zukünftige Wachstumsverhalten finanzieller Vermittlung auf regionaler Ebene auswirken werden. Drei hier zur Diskussion stehende Fragen wiegen in diesem Zusammenhang besonders schwer: die zusätzliche Flexibilität, die Dank der Informationstech-nologie jetzt der Finanzvermittlung zugänglich ist; der Standortwechsel innerhalb der in finanziellen Dienst-leistungen tätigen Industrie sowie seine Auswirkung auf regionale Finanzsektoren; und die europäische Integration, besonders die Regelungen und wahrscheinlichen Folgen für weiteres Wachstum finanzieller Dienstleistungen auf nationaler wie auch regionaler Ebene im Vereinigten Königreich.
