Hábitos y reflexión se consideran motores fundamentales de la agencia humana, la forma como inciden en nuestro comportamiento depende de las complejas relaciones entre estructura y agente. El presente artículo se propone interpretar el papel de los hábitos y la reflexión desde el individuo, a partir de los planteamientos de Searle sobre los estados mentales intencionales. En la primera parte se analiza la propuesta de Archer a propósito del debate agencia/estructura, y en el siguiente apartado se aborda la agencia atendiendo a los estados mentales intencionales. Si los hábitos y la reflexión, como aduce Archer, dependen de la morfostasis y morfogénesis societal, tales procesos deben manifestarse en la conciencia de alguna manera. En esta investigación se sostiene que el análisis de la conciencia y los estados intencionales permiten entender el influjo de lo social sobre el individuo, específicamente desde las creencias y su condición de satisfacción
