This paper highlights a significant gap in casework theory and practice-the lack of conceptualization of environmental modification. The neglect of environmental modification is traced through the literature, with particular emphasis on the lack of specifically delineated action principles and techniques. A definition of environmental modification is proposed, along with implications for practice
