Differences in value orientations related to ethnic differences and their effect on the client- social worker treatment process are examined by comparing groups of French-speaking and English-speaking Canadian Catholic lower-middle-class clients in family agencies and French-speaking and English-speaking social workers. Four specific questions are examined relating to value orientations of workers and clients from each ethnic group, interview con- tent, and the subsequent psychosocial adjustment of clients. It is concluded that clients and workers from different ethnic origins do have different value orientations and do perform differently in interviews and that clients from each group do achieve different levels of ad- justment following treatment
