Few attempts have been made to evaluate which subgroups of a given population of maltreated children are served best by a therapeutic day treatment program. The study reported in this article demonstrates that children enrolled in such a program make developmental gains but that not all children benefit equally. These findings indicate the need for social workers to evaluate treatment programs critically and to use the evaluation results to modify ongoing treatment and to facilitate placement decisions
