The index of dissimilarity is used to measure residential segregation of Anglos, Mexican-Americans, and Blacks in 46 SMSAs in the Southwest. Results indicate that Blacks are the most segregated group while Mexican-Americans are the least segregated. A model is developed to predict the levels of segregation. The model is satisfactory in explaining the segregation of Anglos from Blacks and Mexican-Americans but not in explaining the segregation of Mexican-Americans and Blacks from each other. The degree of income equality is found to be the strongest predictor of Anglo from Mexican-American segregation, while occupation and income equality are equally strong predictors of Anglo and Black segregation. Generally the presence of Mexican-Americans and Blacks in the same SMSA does not affect their respective levels of segregation
