Research in social work is affected by a wide and diverse range of factors ranging from the philosophical, the phenomenological, the empirical through to the more immediate and concrete socio-political and cultural contexts within social problems. In an integrated research strategy, where both the subjects and objects of interest are human, theory can be systematically developed through the interaction between activity and ideas. Here interaction is understood as a dynamic system (in contrast to a fixed system that regulates or sets the parameters of action and the range of possible actions that occurs within it) as it is the behaviour of the actors that not only reproduces but also alters the structures within which action arises. The application of integrated strategies in social work research requires the application of specific knowledge, skills and competence of both quantitative-deductive and qualitative-inductive strategies so as they could be used with reflection and competence. Integrated strategies can be seen as the future of social research
