This article engages in an analysis of the Futurist Ennio Valentinelli, revealing him to be the \nfree-word poet, Acciaio, who was an important figure in the movement during World War 1. \nAfter linking the names of Valentinelli and Acciaio for the first time, the article reconstructs \nthe biography of this forgotten Futurist and analyses his pseudonymous Futurist free-word \nworks, composed while serving with the Italian Army. This account of Valentinelli points to a \nbroader need to reconsider Futurist combat experiences of World War 1, aiming to reveal \nthe multiplicity of Futurist combat experiences beyond the well-known exploits of its most \nfamous members
