Self in Chronic Illness and Time, which won awards from the Pacific Sociological Association and the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. Her co-edited volume with Antony Bryant, The Handbook of Grounded Theory, was just published by Sage, London. She has also written numerous papers on grounded theory methods as well as on health and illness, social psychology, and research report writing. Her work in progress includes a guidebook on good writing for beleaguered academics, chapters on qualitative methods, and an exploration into the social psychology of suffering. Dr. Charmaz has served as an officer in a number of professional societies in sociology. She received both the 2001 Feminist Mentors award and the 2006
