Reports on project investigating the interactions between nutrition and population growth in developing countries; included is an annotated bibliography of pertinent literature arranged by region and country. The multidimensional approach of this project makes use of input derived from the following 3 areas of investigation: 1) The physiological relationship between nutrition and reproduction is studied looking at the effects of nutritional improvement on mortality the contraceptive effects of breastfeeding and the impact of nutritional improvement on fertility. 2) Psychosocial and demographic transition models determining family size are studied. The changing value of children with socioeconomic development is discussed and a review is made of the insurance and investment strategies practiced in 3rd World countries in response to changes in nutrition and child mortality. 3) Integrated programs aimed at simultaneously improving nutritional status and reducing population growth are evaluated and factors which appear necessary for successful program development are discussed. An important topic not considered is the effect of estrogen based contraceptives on milk production and maternal nutrition. The annotated bibliography of 321 works is intended to provide a representative sample of research reports concerning interaction between nutrition and population growth in developing countries. Abstracts are divided under 5 general headings according to their relevance to physiological psychological programmatic and socioeconomic variables with the 5th category being made up of studies of data quality
