Various family planning experiments are categorized according to the principal approach that was tested. Forty-six examined the type and characteristics of personnel best suited for certain functions. Nineteen determined the contribution of mass media campaigns to the effectiveness of a programs. Sixteen considered the integration of family planning into other health programs. Ten investigated whether intensive campaigns increase the acceptance and practice of family planning. Six measured the influence of incentives on fertility reduction. Fourteen measured the impact of various schemes to distribute contraceptives. The study of personnel demonstrated the need for highly trained clinical personnel. Mass media was found to contribute to the knowledge of family planning and, to a lesser extent, increase the actual practice of contraception. The study of integrated health approaches confirms the existence of a synergistic relationship between family planning efforts and general health programs. The results of intensive campaigns were mixed. Similarly, both the incentive programs for family planning and the inundation of contraceptives have had mixed impacts
