Background information is presented on Bohol 1 of the islands of the Philippines. Facts concerning demography religion economics agriculture social institutions and population dynamics are included. The population of the island is young with nearly 1/2 under 15. Due to outmigration of working-age people the dependency ratio on the island is higher than usual. From the time of the 1st census in 1903 to the census of 1979 the population had increased more than 3-fold. If population growth increases at this pace the small island will soon be overcrowded
