Fertility estimates in Korea are necessary due to an unreliable vital registration system. Tabulations of own children (children borne by the mother excluding adopted children boarders etc.) from the 1966 Census the 1968 Fertility and Family Planning Survey and the 1966 Special Demographic Survey all concluded with comparable results and estimates indicating their probable true representation of actual fertility levels. The 1970 Census data on own children will indicate the fertility trends since 1966 and validate the 1966 fertility estimates
