Russell Leong's short story Eclipse (2000), which stages a comical altercation between anthropology and grassroots knowledge, might serve as a manifesto for Amerasia Journal—a machine for generating interdisciplinary knowledge about Asian Americans, designed to avoid the ideological and methodological pitfalls of cultural anthropology. Under Leong's editorship, Amerasia has encouraged and showcased interdisciplinary research on an Asian America that has been growing more heterogeneous over time. To sound out that heterogeneity, Amerasia has been mixing and matching tools developed in a wide range of fields, including history, sociology, anthropology, political science, economics, philosophy, art history, literary studies, critical race theory, women's studies, gender, and queer studies, as well as film and media studies. No less importantly, Amerasia has encouraged the production of knowledge from within minority communities through interviews and oral history, breaking with the tradition that privilege
