This is a timely and informative contribution to the growing body of evidenced-based research literature on safeguarding children and young people. The mainstay of the publication is the grounding of the discussions in evidence-based research which is discussed in detail in the introduction, with further information on the studies provided in the appendices. Each chapter clearly identifies the scope of work and emphasis contained within each section, making the publication a valuable reference source which can be utilised in education/training and in informing Local Safeguarding Children's Board (LSCB) policy making and local practice guidance. Chapter Two examines the identification of neglect and how safeguarding responses are shaped and influenced. Drawing on the findings of several studies, the ways in which professionals intervene and respond to indicators of abuse, specifically emotional abuse and neglect, are discussed. The concluding sections of this and subsequent chapters in Safeguarding Children across Services contains key messages for practitioners across a range of agencies, and it is this specific emphasis which suggests the publication is also an ideal tool for multi-agency training approaches.
