This study proposes the hypothetical reconstruction of the route of a Roman via vicinal – a local road – between the towns of Mentesa Bastia (La Guardia) and Tugia (Toya) in the present-day province of Jaén, Andalusia, southern Spain. Although there are no explicit mentions in ancient written sources or direct material evidence of its route, its existence cannot be ruled out. The connection between the two settlements appears plausible, as each is recorded as a mansio on the itineraries of two different viae publicae – public roads. The study applies an interdisciplinary methodology that combines archaeology, geography, ethnography and spatial analysis using GIS tools. It aims to identify traces of this possible secondary route and to assess its role in the territorial organisation of southern Hispania
