Inscriptions have recently been found on the inside of some 17th- to 19th-century milled window leads, along one or both of the faces of the central bar of the ‘H’ section into which the glass panes fitted. Some examples have dates, some give full personal and place names, and others have letters, which appear to be initials. The names appear to be those of the vice-makers and glaziers responsible for producing the leads. The marks probably facilitated quality control over the finished products
