Providers of location-based services face the problem to select and dimension the infrastructure to transmit the content to the users of their service. Thereby, location-based services for mobile users pose special issues, because of the locally limited scope of the content. We define a scenario consisting of service requirements in terms of spatial throughput and a simple mobility model. This scenario is then investigated regarding two possible infrastructures: Connection via a cellular network or alternatively via isolated Wireless LAN Hot Spots. We estimate whether the service can be delivered via a cellular network or if Hot Spots should be used, how many of these are required. We confirm our findings by simulations
