The National Asian American Psychology Training Center (1) intensively trains interns to assume roles as scientist-practitioners; (2) allows interns to develop special expertise with multi-ethnic, particularly Asian-American, populations; (3) exposes interns to a wide range of settings (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, emergency services, day treatment with adult, children, and families) and activities (e.g., assessment, therapy and intervention, research); and (4) permits individualized and intense supervision of interns. The training program is aimed at the development of competent clinical-community psychologists who have special expertise with Asian-Americans rather than the training of psychologists to work simply with Asian-Americans.
