McNall's analysis of the role of multinationals on Greek development leads him to reasonably pessimistic conclusions in connection with Greece's prospects on the eve of accession to the Common Market. The pros and cons of complex economic factors involved have long been debated in the Greek and European press and throughout a wide spectrum of international professional and official pamphlets. Indeed, all research so far, including works that conclude in support of Greece, make no secret of the fact that, given Greece's present economic structure, accession will create difficult problems for the agricultural as well as the industrial sectors, both of which lag behind EEC standards, largely because of heavy dependency (the role of multinationals) and despite impressive development indices of recent decades
