What, Then, is Freedom? Reply to Bahro

It came as quite a surprise to read that Rudolf Bahro, in replying to my interview, in effect admitted I was right in the four points of my statement. This may not have been his intention, but I want to welcome it nonetheless in responding to it here. 1. As far as Poland is concerned, he concedes that "it belongs to Europe, to that region of the world in which the French criteria...indeed have absolute validity.... There can be no solution of the overall social crisis there without full independence from Moscow." It has been my main reproach to opposition groups that they have not stressed this; they have not felt united with Solidarity; and they have not been willing to demonstrate for it
