Polish authorities have not yet decided whether to treat the Gdansk Agreement as a lasting compromise or a temporary concession. Many recent actions by the authorities indicate that they often opt for the second. One of the first things they did after the accord was signed was to try to steal a number of the strikers' demands. One after another, the totally compromised old unions declared themselves in favor of the strategy adopted by the party, i.e., to be “independent and self-managed.” The leadership of these unions voted for the dissolution of its central board (CRZZ). With the help of the “disinformation” disseminated by the media, the slogans of independence and self-management were to be adopted by the old unions
