This important book by Raymond Aron is devoted to criticism of the present-day existentialism of Sartre and of the structuralism of Althusser. The Marxist origin of the title of Aron's work is obvious, and should connote, as Seve has in general suggested, that structuralism has emerged because of the failure of the social theory of existentialism; and hence Aron's volume is an aspect of the bourgeois crisis of thought in confronting Marxism-Leninism. In entitling his work "from one holy family to another," Aron has probably forgotten the remarkable criticism of Sartre, published in 1947, by Henri Mougin, called La sainte famille existentialiste
