The essay by Douglas Kellner on “Korsch's Revolutionary Historicism” in Telos 26 offers a penetrating interpretation of Korsch's thought and is certainly conceived in his spirit. However, it is not always historically accurate. What I miss in Kellner's essay is the feeling for the spirit of the twenties, and here I claim to speak from personal experience. There is always a certain discrepancy between the personal recollections of the participants in an historical action, and the historians (I am one myself) who must work on papers which are mere sediments of the whirling matter in the agitated waters of history. In the present case, memory is able to correct the shadowy evidence of the papers
