It is strange that, although structuralism has been a major cultural fashion in Europe (particularly in France) for the past two decades, its nature is still problematic. The available literature on the subject is already enormous, yet, the question is asked. Precisely because of its broad reception and the ambiguity of its fundamental presuppositions (which allows it to penetrate into the most diverse fields), it has become increasingly difficult to see structuralism as a single current and reduce its various versions to a common denominator. It is consequently legitimate to ask whether this label convers various positions that, very often, have little in common
