Prior to the October Revolution, the socialist parties of Europe opposed Taylorism as the most modern and ruthless form of capitalist exploitation. In 1913 and 1914, Lenin devoted two articles to this “scientific method of extortion of sweat,” which carried the “enslavement of humankind to the machine” to an extreme. “As a result of this method three times more labor is squeezed out of the worker in the same nine to ten hour workday; all the worker's strength is unmercifully roused, everybit of nervous and muscle energy is drained from the slave laborer at three times the speed.... Advances in the spheres of technology and science in capitalist society are but advances in the art of extortion of sweat.”
