of sociologists who share a commitment to the development of gender as a specialty in sociology and a commitment to the enhancement of seminar members'professional and personal lives. This transformation was guided by three principles offeminist pedagogy. First, personal issues were viewed as structurally induced and socially patterned and, therefore, as legitimate sources of sociological insight. Second, revisionism in theory and method was seen as acceptable, and the resulting demystification of the research process facilitated innovation. Third, emphasis on the collaborative searchfor knowledge reduced competition, encouraged role modeling, and stimulated theformation ofprofessional and personal networks
