Franchthi Cave is an important prehistoric site in southern Greece. Six years of excavation have revealed a sequence beginning in later Upper Palaeolithic and continuing to near the end of the Greek Neolithic, i.e. some 17,000 (radiocarbon) years of essentially continuous human occupation. The purpose of the following is to make public 11 new dates from this sequence and, at the same time, to suggest that there is no significant difference between the results of samples collected for radiocarbon dating by flotation and those secured by conventional trench-collection
