The Ingersolls have lived and worked together in Thailand during four extended periods since the 1950s and each has made several shorter visits individually. An earlier version of this essay was presented at the fall meeting of Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) held on November 16, 1985, at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in a panel exploring the conjunction between oral historical and anthropological fieldwork.
