This collection of papers by various authors deals with aspects of the relationship between food and modern history. These papers were originally prepared for a conference held in Bellagio Italy in 1982 and were published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary History Vol. 14 No. 2 Autumn 1983; most have been cited individually in Population Index. The focus of the papers is on the influence of fertility and mortality on population size as well as the relationship of nutrition and malnutrition to those basic variables. The geographic emphasis is worldwide
