The slope-area ratio has been used as a means to identify tectonic perturbations on a large scale. Although the efficiency of slope-area ratio as a tool for geological interpretation has been demonstrated by several studies, there is a large untapped potential of its application. In this paper, we analyze the details of the slope-area ratio and its applicability to neotectonic interpretation in the area, characterized by recent and small movements. The study was conducted in a loworder channel developed on the basalts of the Paran Basin, with knickpoints, convex and concave segments. We conducted an independently morphostructural analysis, related to the longitudinal profile of the channel and its interactions with the geological structures and lithological characteristics. Subsequently, we conducted analysis of the slope-area ratio to check their interpretative efficiency compared with the information from the previous analysis. The database was obtained in topographic map (scale 1: 10,000) and field survey. The conventional analysis revealed that the channel is developed on different areas of basalt flows (vesicular and massive) and cross faults and tilted fault blocks. The morphology of the profile is controlled by lithological properties or by tectonic structures. Combined with conventional analysis, slope-area ratio improves the discrimination of morphological sections of the profile and can recognize anomalies related to tectonic slope and differentiate them from features produced by lithologic control. Separately, the slope-area analysis only points anomalies and patterns of the morphology that suggest controls to be investigated by other means
