Ming studies in China have entered a new stage of development since 1990. Forming a key link toward the end of a long chain of ancient Chinese history, the history of the Ming dynasty, with its distinct quality of change and innovation, has drawn much scholarly attention. The influence of the Ming dynasty with its history serving as a key to the door of modern China has, as Professor Farmer observes, lasted five centuries and is still felt today
