In this Commentary Symposium, four authors from diverse fields and geographic locations collaboratively explore problems of pedagogical practice through the medium of a dialogical notebook, a form of collaborative writing. From teaching innovation to classroom participation, to questions of assessment and finally, evaluation of teaching, the papers in this collection question underlying assumptions and reflect on the complexities of different teaching environments. In this Introduction, we chart the origins of the project, and reflect on the dialogical notebook approach as a model for reflexive practice in community. This symposium is intended for educators in higher education, particularly those interested in reflective, student-centred pedagogy and collaborative writing practices. We hope that it will resonate with teachers working across diverse geographic and disciplinary contexts. Scholars of educational theory, pedagogy, and cross-disciplinary collaboration will also find value in the dialogical notebook approach, which foregrounds multivocality and reflexive engagement with both theory and practice
