Poetry is the poet's way into the world, a path to connection. Paradoxically, it is also a key to unlocking her deepest self, discovering where that selfjoins with all that appears to be outside of it, ultimately to realize inseparability from the self' of every other being, human and nonhuman. If that suggests religion I cannot deny the resemblance. When I seriously examine my feelings with respect to poetry, and myself as a maker of poetry, it comes to me forcibly that I am in the realm of the sacred.
