It was a cold winter day when I went to the house of Ada Damon, my father's aunt, in Shiprock, New Mexico. Since we were relatives, she quickly offered coffee and bread to my mother and to me. Later, during the course of the interview, she brought out some Indian cake, a delicious concoction of finely ground corn meal, milk, and other secret ingredients that her daughter had brought her. She liked to laugh and occasionally gave me little jabs in the arm while she was recounting her past life. Afterwards, she listened intently to the replay of the interview; she would not allow anyone to interrupt her while she listened to herself. In her concluding remarks, Ada commented that she did not realize she had said all that. She invited us to come again, and then bid us good-bye
